Motorhome Chapter Spotlight | Family Motor Coach Association
This chapter has a new name and a new mission: to support owners of diesel-powered motorhomes.
By Ken Carpenter, F312233
The CAT RV Club was formed in 2004 for FMCA members who were enthusiasts of Caterpillar brand diesel engines. Since then, Caterpillar ceased production of on-highway engines, and some current chapter members have purchased newer coaches with different brands of power plants. Diesel RV Club, the new name for the group, reflects our mission now.
As members of the Diesel RV Club, we:
- Exchange information about how to keep diesel coach repair costs to a minimum, how to perform maintenance on these engines, and how to get maximum performance from them.
- Provide opportunities for fun and fellowship.
- Support FMCA activities such as area rallies and Family Reunions.
- Promote diesel engines in all RV types (A, B, and C).
- Help our fellow RVers.
Our rallies are usually held two weeks prior to FMCA’s Family Reunion and Motorhome Showcase events. Attendees benefit from in-depth maintenance seminars and technical presentations. Ninety percent of the care and feeding of a diesel motorhome deals with systems every brand shares — fuel, cooling, air, and more. The Diesel RV Club provides a link between diesel RV owners and all diesel engine manufacturers.
The chapter Web site, www.dieselrvclub.org, is a great source of information about membership, club business matters/chapter governance, rally information, and our quarterly newsletters. Members of the chapter also participate in the Diesel RV Club Discussion Forum on our Web site.
Our next gathering — a rally within a rally — will be at the Southeast Area Rally in Brooksville, Florida, February 6-10, 2013. And our big annual preconvention rally, prior to FMCA’s 88th Family Reunion in Gillette, Wyoming, is set for June 2–7, 2013, at the Absaroka Bay RV Campground in Cody, Wyoming. For more information about the prerally, visit www.dieselrvclub.org.
Chapter rallies typically feature social gatherings and take advantage of things to do and see near their locations. Participants can anticipate activities such as bean bag toss tournaments, social hours, crafts, a free day to explore the area, a photo contest, an engine maintenance seminar, a general maintenance seminar, and radiator SCA testing for all coaches.
Diesel RV Club dues vary depending on how you elect to receive your newsletters. For e-mailed newsletters, dues are $15 per year; printed newsletters, $25 per year. Newsletters are published four times a year and also are available on the Web site. A major benefit of belonging to the chapter is having access to resources that help owners maintain their investments — that, and having plenty of fun along the way.
