Motorhome Chapter Spotlight | Family Motor Coach Association
This chapter's name has nothing to do with age and everything to do with traveling in the upper Midwest.

Three years ago, little did my husband and I know how much we were going to enjoy our new motorhome thanks to our local FMCA chapter, Over the Hill. After joining FMCA, we caravanned with some of the chapter members to the Midwest Area Rally that was taking place in Elkhorn, Wisconsin. We had such a great time that we joined the chapter and have attended many rallies since, each more fun than the one before!
The chapter’s name, according to lore, was originally "Over The Hills," which referred to traveling, but a sign the group had made omitted the "s" — and so it stayed like that. Our chapter will be 39 years young in 2013, so you could say we're not even middle-aged! We are a fairly small group with 24 member families, most of whom live in Illinois, Iowa, or Wisconsin.
Our rallies are hosted by two couples who plan the itinerary and meals. Typically, a rally starts on a Thursday afternoon and ends on a Sunday morning. We do not have rally registration fees, and members pay for their own campsite. Rally atttendees can participate in a variety of planned activities, or just relax at their site. Each day ends with a group dinner, either at a local restaurant, arranged for by the rally hosts, or via a potluck. If weather permits, we usually gather around a campfire at night and share stories.
Hosts are currently researching local tours and activities for 2013. For our first rally this year, May 30 through June 2, we plan to visit LeClaire, Iowa, the home base of the History Channel's “American Pickers” show, where there is an antiques store associated with the show. We also may stop at the John Deere factory and pavilion in the Quad Cities area. We will hold rallies in Wisconsin in July and August, and in September and October we will visit locales in Illinois.
Many Over The Hill members attend FMCA area rallies and Family Reunions. If you have been to the Midwest Area Rally, you probably have seen us in our greeter vests and hats, welcoming you to the rally site.
We are a very friendly, active group and welcome all FMCA members to join us. Our dues are $15 per year, and newbies pay a $10 per-person fee for club name badges. We all stay in touch via e-mail, and we have a chapter newsletter that is e-mailed to members.
