Tennessee Travelers: Chapter Spotlight

This chapter lives up to its name by taking journeys to points near and far.

Tennessee Travelers members pose in front of the LST 325, a World War II tank landing ship. The beautiful mountains of eastern Tennessee are the home base for the Tennessee Travelers. We were chartered on May 1, 2004. If you like eating out; seeing places you have never seen previously and may never see again; the fellowship of likeminded people; and you live within 100 miles of Spring City, Tennessee, then you may want to join us.

We travel for rallies from May through October. Our rallies normally are held in places that are within a couple hundred miles from our home base, but occasionally we take a longer jaunt. In 2009, 19 chapter member coaches traveled to Jekyll Island, Georgia, for a marvelous nine-day trip, and in 2010 we met in Xenia, Ohio.

We have traveled to the beautiful mountains of north Georgia, site of the 1820 gold rush. Many of the descendants of Creek and Cherokee Indians live in Dahlonega, the center of the mining area. In 2012 we visited Clarksville, Tennessee, and toured the last World War II tank landing ship still in operation, the LST 325. Our travels also have taken us to the National Cornbread Festival in South Pittsburg, Tennessee, and such places as Gatlinburg, Tennessee; Dillard, Georgia; Highlands and Cashiers, North Carolina; and many other locations in our general area.

Our rallies are hosted by one or more couples who make all of the arrangements for the rally site and activities. Since many of our members are retired, we generally meet during the week, from Tuesday through Friday, but most arrive on Monday and leave on Saturday. The Tennessee Travelers chapter is well-stocked with supplies for all of the rallies, and these items are transferred from one host to the next.

Our rallies have a dual purpose: to have fun and to enjoy the area we are visiting. We take part in activities such as golf; antiques shopping; visiting craft shows, chapter flea markets, and public flea markets; attending playhouse stage shows; and walking the streets of tourist towns.

Aside from our regular rallies, each year at Christmastime we have a luncheon where gifts are exchanged and contributions are given to a local charity.

Check the Association Calendar in Family Motor Coaching magazine or online at FMCA.com for a list of our rallies this year, and if you are traveling in our area at the time, let us know (use the number listed below) and come join us.
