Motorhome Chapter Spotlight | Family Motor Coach Association
Rather than meeting up individually at rally sites, this Nevada chapter travels to its events as a group.

Bill and Vicki Gladsjo, F342677, are retirees from Washington who found a warmer, more southern home in a residential community in Pahrump, Nevada, called Artesia. The name comes from the area's natural artesian wells.
Houses at Artesia accommodate RVs with ample parking spaces and full hookups. Vicki and Bill noticed that many of their neighbors also had motorhomes, so they started talking to them and planning trips. What started with four or five couples is now the Wandering Artesians, an associate chapter of FMCA.
The group welcomes new members, and you don't have to live in the Artesia community to join. Most chapter members do live in Pahrump, however. This is especially convenient when participating in an out-of-town rally, because members gather at the Artesia community center, where they form a caravan and head off together. "We like to travel with somebody else,” Vicki explained. “We think that's a little safer way to go, to always have a companion with you. It's another reason we started the chapter."
The group was chartered only two years ago, but already it has rally spots that have become members' favorites: Valley of Fire State Park, Zion National Park, Death Valley National Park, and St. George (Ivins), Utah. The latter is home to the outdoor Tuacahn Amphitheater, which presents musical productions that Vicki said are "really incredible."
Vicki described the chapter as a laid-back group. "We have fun just getting to know each other." The general rally rundown consists of caravanning to the site and having a happy hour that evening. "The next day, depending on where we're going, we either go hiking or play games. Sometimes we go on sight-seeing tours in the area. We usually have one evening where we will go out for dinner; another night we'll do a potluck. For breakfast we go out one morning; another morning, we have what's become a tradition: omelet in a bag." She laughed while recalling a mistake they made once while making this breakfast — using plastic bags that broke in the boiling water. "Gotta be sure you use freezer bags!" she said.
The chapter plans to caravan to Zion National Park in June travel to see the North Rim of the Grand Canyon in July; and then meet again in October at the outdoor Tuachan Amphitheater in Utah. This month, May 15-19, they will rendezvous at the Lakeside Casino & RV Park in Pahrump.
