A simple
thank-you isn’t enough to express the gratitude Anne Carlsen Center
for Children (ACCC) has for the generous support of Family Motor
Coach Association. We were honored to be
chosen as the official charity of Family Motor Coach Association’s
convention in Minot. We were overwhelmed by the warm reception
received from FMCA staff and members during our week with you.
ACCC staff watched with pride as five students shared
their talents with you in a packed grandstand before the Roy Clark
concert. Pride in our students turned to gratitude for you as you
embraced our students with a standing ovation.
That embrace continues to resonate with the children
as they tell everyone about their experience in Minot. One of the
students, who had the opportunity to visit with Roy Clark after the
concert, even invited Roy to come out to our summer camp next year
to participate in the talent show. “I think you would do good, Mr.
Clark,” he told him! Anne Carlsen Center for
Children, with its mission to provide the highest level of
education, therapeutic, and home-life care to children with
specialized medical, behavioral, and physical needs, strives to
change the lives of those we touch. So many
individuals and groups within FMCA (including the On-Road Quilters,
the Red Hat tea participants, the Elk International chapter, and
popular cooking show host Graham Kerr and his wife, Treena) embraced
our mission and the children we serve with financial contributions
and words of support. During the week, ACCC
received over $8,300 in donations and 60 quilts to adorn the
children’s rooms and keep them warm! Anne
Carlsen Center for Children has been providing services for more
than 60 years to children and young adults with special needs. Our
namesake, Dr. Anne Carlsen, believed strongly that people with
disabilities deserved every opportunity to become independent.
Today, more than 250 employees are dedicated to driving her vision
forward. Our students, their families, and
our employees cannot do it alone. It is because of the support of
individuals and organizations like FMCA that we are able to fully
fund our programs and services, building even stronger and more
successful programs for the individuals we serve.
Our Web site, www.annecenter.org, and publications
share stories of the achievements our students realize, thanks in
large part to the support of individuals and organizations like FMCA.
Please visit us there! And as your future
travels bring you back to North Dakota, you are invited to visit our
center in Jamestown for a tour or to spend a few days volunteering.
It is when you step through our doors that your life will truly be
changed forever.
