'America on the Move' to Perry

"America on the Move" is the theme for FMCA’s 73rd International Convention, March 21-24, 2005, at the Georgia National Fairgrounds & Agricenter in Perry, Ga. It will mark FMCA’s fourth convention at this popular location.

Convention attendees can expect more of Perry's Southern hospitality and Southern Cuisine. More of the state's signature peaches and peanuts, and lovely dogwoods and azaleas.

And a high number of motorhomes and motorhome components, accessories and supplies.

All three of FMCA's Perry conventions rank among FMCA's top 10 in terms of coach count. The first convention at the Agricenter, in 1996, attracted 6,632 coaches, an FMCA record at the time. FMCA returned to Perry in 1999 with another large turnout — 6,482 coaches. And, the 2002 "Southern Sensation" convention drew 5,854 motorhomes.

The popularity of the Perry conventions may stem from Perry's location in the heart of Georgia. The quaint town of about 10,000 lies at the crossroads of three federal highways: Interstate 75, U.S. 341 and U.S. 41.

The Georgia National Fairgrounds and Agricenter is located just off I-75 at exits 134 and 135. Thus, the convention will be an excellent stopping spot for "snow birds" traveling northward.

The Agricenter opened in June 1990 and consists of 1,130 acres. More than 250 events take place there each year, including the Georgia National Fair each October. The events draw more than 900,000 people per year.

Reaves Arena should draw plenty of folks for the evening entertainment during the convention. Mac Frampton and the Hollywood Hills Orchestra take the stage Tuesday, March 22. Country singer Pam Tillis will perform Wednesday, March 23. And it's the Oak Ridge Boys' turn on Thursday, March 24.

More information about convention activities will be posted at fmca.com/conventions/2005perry as the convention dates near.

For more info about Perry area attractions, shops, restaurants, fuel outlets and more, drop by the Perry Area Convention & Visitors Bureau. It's located across from the Agricenter, at exit 135 off I-75.
