Tours: Perry 2011 Motorhome Showcase

Reservations are required for all tours. To register, download the Tour Registration Form and mail it in.

At the convention, a Southern Touch Tours representative will be available at the tour desk located in the FMCA Information Center (Multipurpose Building) on Sunday, March 13, from 8 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 1 p.m., to take reservations on a space-available basis. All tours are subject to change.

ART AND ARCHITECTURE TOUR – LAGRANGE, GEORGIA

This tour will include admission to Hills & Dales Estate and Gardens, the home of textile magnate Fuller Callaway. This Neel Reid – designed Georgian-Italian Villa is a wonderful example of a home enjoyed by the family. The gardens were the pride and joy of Mrs. Callaway. Bellevue Mansion is a Greek revival antebellum mansion that features beautiful hand woodwork. The tour also stops at the Lamar Dodd Art Center which showcases the work of Lamar Dodd, a native Georgian and famous artist.

PATRIOTS ON ALL FRONTS – COLUMBUS, GEORGIA

This tour will include admission to the National Infantry Museum, located outside the gates of Fort Benning. Fort Benning is the Home of the infantry and one of the Army’s largest installations. The museum salutes Infantrymen past, present, and future that have served our country during the past 200 years. The National Civil War Naval Museum, located on the banks of the Chattahoochee River, presents the Union and Confederate navies involvement in the war. The Coca-Cola Space Center Museum will open eyes and minds to the adventure and intrigue of space. You will enjoy interactive displays (simulators), the planetarium, an observatory for astronomy outreach, and the Challenger Learning Center in which you can fly simulated space missions or perform duties at Mission Control and the Space Station.

This tour will include admission to the Uncle Remus Museum, home of famed story teller Joel Chandler Harris; a tour of Historic Madison; and a tour and visit to the Monastery Of The Holy Spirit. The Monastic Brotherhood will share the Bonsai Greenhouse, stained glass art, and the goodies from their bakery.

HISTORIC CEMETERY RAMBLE – MACON, GEORGIA

This tour will include a walking tour of Rose Hill Cemetery, which is on the national register of historic places. Rose Hill is one of the most beautiful cemeteries in the world. The rolling hills along the banks of the Ocmulgee River, with the green grass and blooming Yoshino cherry trees, will be a treat as you stroll the grounds. Riverside Historic Cemetery is a picturesque cemetery that features distinctive family mausoleums, the 300-crypt Macon Public Mausoleum, and Camellia Mausoleum. You will find crypts and niches, beautiful Italian marble and granite statuary, obelisks, and memorials scattered across gently rolling hills. Trees and flowering plants add color and natural beauty to the Civil War earthworks preserved in the original plans. The earthworks were used as a field fortification built to protect the city from General Sherman and his Union forces on their infamous March to the Sea. Visit a private garden. Lunch also provided.

QUILTING, ANYONE?

This tour will take you to McDonough, Georgia, to A Scarlet Thread. A Scarlet Thread is the one-stop shop for your sewing needs. Quilting, sewing, serging, and embroidering are joyful art forms and you will feel the happiness once inside. A Baby Lock dealer, A Scarlet Thread is reminiscent of an “ole-fashion sewing circle.” There will be demonstrations, hands-on assistance, and a lot of fellowship. Lunch provided.
