Immediately following “Bicycling 101” seminar ending at 10:00 a.m.
Seminar 8, Sheep Barn
Sign up at the Bicycle Skills Course table in the Information Center beginning Wednesday, August 11, at 7:00 a.m.

Immediately following the “Bicycling 101” seminar, an introductory skills course will be set up between the Dairy/Goat/Llama Barn and the Sheep Barn. There you will learn some basic bicycling skills including quick stopping, straight-in line riding, scanning to the rear, proper helmet fit, etc. Your bicycle and helmet are required for the skills course. Instruction and use of the skills course is limited to the first 100 people to sign up. Local bike shops will provide bike ABC checks and minor adjustments.


If you’re seen having fun at this convention you could be rewarded with FMCA Bonus Bucks. Yes, just for having fun! The Bonus Bucks certificates will be distributed by a special FMCA “Surprise Patrol” and can be redeemed during the “Redmond Rocks!” convention at supplier exhibit booths and concessions displaying the Bonus Bucks sign.

Explore the wonder of children’s books through a visit and book signing with Mary Jean Kelso, author, and K.C. Snider, illustrator, during FMCA’s 84th International Convention.

Mary Jean Kelso is an author of children’s books as well as several young adult and adult novels. Her children’s books are Academic Wings editions from Guardian Angel Publishing, Inc. They provide teachers and homeschoolers with additional learning tools as well as entertaining reading for children. Mary Jean has been an avid RVer for most of her life. Her recently published children’s book, RV Mouse, is the story of a wayward mouse that has misadventures in a motorhome and causes chaos in the campground.

K.C. Snider is a prominent Oregon artist who has branched out into a variety of styles and subjects. She lives in the high desert area with majestic views of the Cascade Mountains as her inspiration. Her collection of oil paintings, lithographs, and pencil drawings include the All-American Cowboy and Cowgirl and their historical lifestyles with magnificent wolves, buffalo herds, eagles, and birds of prey. K.C. has won numerous awards and she also illustrates children’s books, including RV Mouse. She will be present during the book signing along with some examples of her wonderful artwork.

Don’t miss the opportunity to visit with these talented individuals at the Information Center located in North Sister on Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Also, join Mary Jean and K.C. for an “Introduction to Writing & Illustrating Children’s Books” seminar on Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. in Seminar 3.  Those who are interested in writing, or who aspire to be authors or illustrators, will have a chance to pick up tips on breaking into publication as well as ask specific questions during a question-and-answer period.

Make a donation to a good cause during FMCA’s Ice Cream Social and have a chance to soak FMCA national president Charlie Schrenkel and some other lucky FMCAers in a dunk tank.


Daytime entertainment at the 84th International Convention will take place at the Coffee Hour area in Mayfield Circle at the Deschutes County Fair and Expo Center.

Evening entertainment on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, will be held at Juniper Arena.

In case of inclement weather, evening entertainment will take place in the Sheep Barn, Seminar 8. Please refer to the daily newsletter for updates.

“Early Morning Workout For All,” which will incorporate exercise demonstrations from the TravelFit Rehab Series seminars -- Shoulder, Knee, and Back Health -- will be presented by Wayne and Dahelia Hunt, F235156. These health, exercise, and resistance-training specialists have been full-time RVers since 1995, and are health-wellness-fitness-performance educators and national presenters with more than 25 years of experience in their field. TravelFit and Professional Fitness Instructor Training are in association with the American College of Integrative Medicine. Wayne and Dahelia are directors of the Health Fitness Performance Institute in Houston, Texas. Exercise is medicine.


Saturday, August 14, is declared “FMCA Day” and we encourage attendees to wear FMCA logo merchandise. If spotted by the special FMCA “Surprise Patrol” having fun in your FMCA gear, you will have the opportunity to win Bonus Bucks that may be redeemed at participating supplier exhibit booths and concessions displaying the Bonus Bucks sign.


On Friday, August 13, attendees are encouraged to display their own “Free Hugs” sign and watch the fun spirit of FMCA come alive. The FMCA “Surprise Patrol” will be looking for huggers and may be rewarding them with Bonus Bucks that may be redeemed at participating supplier exhibit booths and concessions displaying the Bonus Bucks sign. Attendees can visit the FMCA Office, located in South Sister, to pick up a “Free Hugs” sign or to create their own.

Join your friends and make new ones at the “Redmond Rocks Movie Night.” A special introduction to this classic 1954 romantic comedy featuring Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz will be given by Todd Fisher, Chief Executive Officer of the Debbie Reynolds Hollywood Motion Picture Museum. Lucille Ball’s costume in The Long, Long Trailer also will be on display this evening, courtesy of the Debbie Reynolds Hollywood Motion Picture Museum.

Complimentary refreshments will be available while quantities last.

Jerry Yeatts, F390000, FMCA’s director of conventions and commercial services, will conduct a seminar to introduce first-time attendees to the fun, spirit, activities, and opportunities related to FMCA membership and attending rallies and conventions. Be sure to bring your convention program.


A miniature putting green will be set up in the Activities Area at the Horse Barn on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday for members and guests to test their skills with the little white ball. Please sign out putters at The Café & Bistro.

Redmond High School

The Central Oregon’s Tribute to Heroes will include one of the largest traveling replicas of the Vietnam Wall. The Tribute will be at the Redmond High School from Wednesday, August 11, through Sunday, August 15. In addition to the wall there will be exhibits and representatives to assist attendees with locating relatives and friends named on the wall. The wall and exhibits are sponsored by the Veterans Of Foreign Wars – Deschutes Post #4108. Redmond High School is located at 675 S.W. Rimrock Drive, Redmond, Oregon. The exhibit will be open 24 hours a day and admission is free.
