Recall Corner
April 2001
Ford Motor Company
has announced recall 00S48 (NHTSA recall 00V246111), which involves
17,700 Ford F-Super Duty motorhome chassis manufactured between July
1999 and May 2000.
Certain chassis may
have tie rod ends and/or drag link assembly ends that could have
insufficient hardness in the ball stud. This could result in
premature wear and separation of the ball stud from its socket.
Dealers will
replace the tie rod ends and/or drag link assemblies. Repair time
varies according to the work needed, parts availability, and service
scheduling times.
Ford reported that
owner notification of this recall began in December 2000. For more
information, contact a local Ford dealer or call Ford motorhome
customer assistance at (800) 444-3311.

Freightliner Custom Chassis
has announced recall FL-277 (NHTSA recall 00V427), which involves
3,446 year-2000 XC, XCS, and VCL motorhome chassis made between
April 30, 1999, and March 10, 2000.
All of the affected
chassis are equipped with aluminum wheels. On these chassis, the
valve stem on the rear inner tire could rub against the wheel and
develop a leak. A loss of air on the inner tire, if undetected,
could overload the outer tire.
The remedy involves
installing a valve stem extension stabilizer. This takes
approximately one hour; however, because of service scheduling time,
the service center may need your vehicle for a longer period.
Freightliner reported that owner notification
began in March 2001. Those affected by the recall should contact
their Freightliner dealer and have their chassis serial number (the
last six digits of the VIN number) handy. Owners who do not receive
the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact Freightliner
at (800) 385-4357.
