Recall Corner July 2001

In March 2001, Fleetwood Enterprises Inc. announced recall 10219 (NHTSA recall 01V058), which involves 200 2001 model-year Discovery 37U motorhomes built between December 2000 and February 2001. The battery cable is routed too close to a sharp edge on top of the automatic transmission, causing abrasion to the cable insulation, which could lead to an electrical short or possibly a fire.

Owners should contact their Fleetwood dealer to have this condition remedied. Dealers will inspect and replace damaged cables, if necessary, and relocate the affected cables. Approximately one hour will be required to complete the work. However, because of service scheduling times, the service center may need your vehicle for a longer period.

Until the motorhome is inspected or repaired, Fleetwood recommends operating the vehicle at a low rate of speed. Owners also should be particularly sensitive to any unusual smells, or smoke in the engine compartment. If you notice any of these conditions, contact your dealer or Fleetwood Owner Relations Group immediately at (800) 322-8216. Make reference to recall 10219, and have your 12-digit Fleetwood identification number (FIN) available.

Winnebago Industries Inc. has announced recall 78 (NHTSA recall 01V006), which involves 127 2001 model-year Winnebago Minnie Winnie and Winnebago Sundancer motorhomes made between August 31, 2000, and January 22, 2001.

The affected coaches have slideout wall units in which the hose supplying liquid propane gas to the refrigerator in the slideout of the unit did not have adequate hose loop at the extension mechanism. The insufficient amount of hose in this loop could cause damage to the hose when the room is retracted. The hose could develop a leak, which could result in a fire.

Dealers will reroute the LP-gas hose. Allow approximately one hour for the work to be completed. However, because of service scheduling times, the service center may need your vehicle for a longer period.

For more information about this recall, contact Winnebago at (641) 585-6939.

Winnebago Industries began owner notification in March 2001.
