Recall Corner
March 2002
Winnebago Industries
has announced recall 84 (NHTSA recall 01V298), which affects 396
model-year 2002 Winnebago Rialta motorhomes made between February
2001 and June 2001.
On certain
motorhomes, the wheel cover (hubcap) can rotate while mounted on the
wheel. If the cover rotates to the valve stem, it could shear off
the valve stem, leading to rapid tire deflation. The rapid air loss
could cause the driver to lose control of the vehicle, resulting in
a potential crash.
Dealers will
replace the rubber valve stems and wheel covers, which should take
approximately one hour. Service times may necessitate that the
vehicle be at the dealership longer.

Workhorse Custom Chassis
Inc.
has announced recall 30101-C (NHTSA recall 01V317), which affects
5,011 Workhorse W20, W22, P320032, and P320042 chassis made between
April and July 2001 (all 2001 model year).
On certain
motorhome chassis, the rear axle U-bolts may not be tightened
correctly due to a random production tooling failure. Low U-bolt
torque can result in the U-bolts coming loose and not properly
retaining the rear axle to the vehicle, possibly resulting in a loss
of vehicle control.
Dealers will
tighten the rear axle U-bolts, which should take approximately one
hour. Service times may necessitate that the vehicle be at the
dealership longer.
