Recall Corner
May 2002
Country Coach Inc.
has announced recall 01V284 (NHTSA recall 01V284), which affects
Gillig chassis with VIN (vehicle identification number)
46GED3K1050976 to 46GED2511V1043216 and Dynomax chassis with VIN
4U7C6E8FR10X1100508 to 4U7E9FR18Z110910. These chassis were used on
128 MH PD (diesel pusher) motorhomes between January 1990 and
November 1992, 460 Magna motorhomes between July 1991 and September
1999, 52 Affinity motorhomes between February 1993 and September
1999, and 95 Concept motorhomes between March 1990 and June 2000.
On certain
motorhome chassis, mathematical miscalculations resulted in
erroneously assigned cold tire inflation pressures and axle weight
ratings that are inadequate. As a consequence, these motorhomes have
tire weight ratings that are less than the front or rear axle weight
ratings (FAWR, RAWR) and in some instances have inadequate FAWR
and/or RAWR. The FAWR and/or RAWR as stated on the federal tire
label are inadequate for these motorhomes. Because of this, the
tires selected for these motorhomes do not comply with Federal Motor
Vehicle Safety Standard 120. In some cases, this could cause
premature front tire tread wear or tire failure during normal
driving. The premature tire tread wear or tire failure could lead to
a loss of steering control and potentially result in a vehicle
accident.
Dealers will
remove and replace the front and/or rear tires to remedy the
noncompliance. Federal tire labels will also be replaced. This work
will be performed at no cost to the consumer. The repair will take
approximately 5 hours (2 hours for front tires and/or 3 hours for
rear tires).
