Recall Corner — September 2006

Prevost Car Inc. has announced NHTSA recall 06V214000, which affects some 2004 and 2005 Prevost H3-45 VIP, XLII-45, XLII-45 Entertainer, and XLII-45 MTH coach conversion shells manufactured between May 2003 and November 2004. The potential number of bus shells involved is 459.

On certain shells equipped with independent front suspensions (IFS), overheating of the bell crank and idler arm mounting spindles during the forging process has significantly weakened the material, therefore, requiring replacement. In certain heavy loading conditions, these defective parts could break, causing a loss of steering control, which increases the risk of a crash.
Dealers will replace the defective parts. The repair is expected to take approximately four hours. However, because of service scheduling times, the service center may need the vehicle for a longer time period.

For more information about this recall, contact Prevost at (418) 831-5432. Owner notification was expected to begin in June 2006.

Workhorse Custom Chassis Inc. has announced NHTSA recall 06V148000, which affects some 2005 and 2006 W20, W22, and W24 motorhome chassis manufactured between April 28, 2005, and March 15, 2006. The potential number of chassis involved is 3,881.

Certain motorhome chassis may have been equipped with incorrect steering intermediate shafts. If an incorrect shaft was installed, it could cause the shaft to become loose at the steering box during tight steering maneuvers (e.g., while the vehicle is stopped or at very slow speeds). If this occurs, steering control could be lost. This condition could increase the risk of a crash.

Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the steering intermediate shaft. The repair is expected to take approximately 30 minutes. However, because of service scheduling times, the service center may need the vehicle for a longer time period.

For more information about these recalls, contact Workhorse at (877) 294-6773. Owner notification began in May 2006.
