Recall Corner
April 2007
Fleetwood Enterprises Inc.
has announced NHTSA recall 07V059000, which affects some 2007
American Eagle and American Tradition motorhomes manufactured
between May 25, 2006, and January 17, 2007. The potential number of
coaches involved is 133.
On certain coaches, the antilock
braking system (ABS) module may not have been permanently mounted.
The module could detach from the vehicle, which could cause the
antilock feature for the brake system to be lost. This condition
will not affect normal braking operations.
Dealers will inspect and permanently
mount the ABS module to the inside of the chassis rail. The repair
is expected to take approximately one hour. However, because of
service scheduling times, the service center may need the vehicle
for a longer time period.
For more information about this
recall, contact Fleetwood at (800) 509-3418. The recall was expected
to begin in February 2007.

Four Winds International
Inc. has announced NHTSA recall
07V047000, which affects some 2007 40H and 39E model motorhomes
manufactured between November 2006 and March 2007. The potential
number of coaches involved is 26.
On certain coaches, the propane gas
line to the galley slideout may not be properly routed and
supported. Continued operation of the propane system may result in a
gas line rupture and gas leak, which could result in a fire or an
explosion. Owners are instructed not to use the propane system until
their motorhomes can be repaired.
Dealers will reconfigure the propane
system piping to eliminate the potential for binding or kinking. The
repair is expected to take approximately two hours. However, because
of service scheduling times, the service center may need the vehicle
for a longer time period.

recall, contact Four Winds at (574) 266-1111. The recall was
expected to begin in March 2007.

Jayco
Inc. has announced NHTSA recall
07V005000, which affects some 2005 through 2007 model year Jayco
Seneca motorhomes equipped with four-bolt hitches built between
January 19, 2004, and September 14, 2006. The potential number of
coaches involved is 1,271.
On certain motorhomes, the distance
from the rear cap to the hitch receiver encourages the use of longer
ball mounts and/or extensions. The longer the ball mount and/or
extensions used, the greater the forces applied to the fasteners
that attach the hitch to the main chassis rails. These increased
forces exceed the allowable forces permitted in the fasteners. When
this happens, the fasteners may stretch, loosen, or break, c ausing
an unsafe towing condition. If this condition is not addressed, it
could result in a crash, injury, or death.
Dealers will replace all mounting
hardware with hardware of a higher grade. The repair is expected to
take approximately one hour. However, because of service scheduling
times, the service center may need the vehicle for a longer time
period.

recall, contact Jayco at (800) 283-8267. Owner notification began in
January 2007.

Newell Coach Corporation
has announced NHTSA recall 07V004000, which affects some 2003
through 2006 motorhomes manufactured between February 14, 2003, and
December 12, 2006, with VIN numbers ending with 671, 681, 685,
697-816, and 1200-1216. The potential number of coaches involved is
138.
On certain coaches, the steering box
mounting bolts may not have been properly tightened during the
production process. This could result in excessive play in the
steering and possible loss of the steering box attachment,
increasing the risk of a crash.
Dealers will inspect the mounting
bolts and replace and retighten the bolts as necessary. The
inspection/repair is expected to take approximately 15 minutes.
However, because of service scheduling times, the service center may
need the vehicle for a longer time period.

Roadtrek Motorhomes Inc.
(formerly Home and Park Motorhomes) has announced NHTSA recall
07V036000, which affects some 2006 and 2007 Roadtrek 210 motorhomes
manufactured between July 21, 2006, and January 26, 2007. The
potential number of coaches involved is 131.
On certain type B motorhomes built on
Chevrolet's 3500 chassis, the female pipe thread of the brass
connector coupling fitting used to connect the copper piping from
the motorhome’s propane tank to the brass fitting assembly behind
the refrigerator was machined too deep. The connection can leak with
vehicle usage, resulting in a possible fire hazard. As a warning
that a propane gas leak exists, owners will notice a distinct rotten
egg smell.
Dealers will inspect the brass
connector, replace it if necessary, and perform a gas leak function
test on the propane system. The repair and test are expected to take
approximately 90 minutes. However, because of service scheduling
times, the service center may need the vehicle for a longer time
period.

recall, contact Roadtrek at (888) 762-3873. The recall began in
February 2007.
