Recall Corner
— December 2007
Cummins Power Generation
has announced NHTSA recall 07E076000, which affects some
3.2-kilowatt Cummins Onan Quiet Diesel generators installed in 2008
Itasca Navion and Winnebago View motorhomes built between June 11,
2007, and August 3, 2007. The potential number of coaches involved
is 65.
On certain motorhomes equipped with
the affected generator, the generator’s internal controller located
within the generator housing may fail. Should the internal
controller fail and its electrical circuits remain energized beyond
the designed period, the preheater element that aids cold starts can
overheat and could cause a fire in the generator's air intake
system.
A Cummins Onan service technician
will replace components, including the controller, within the
generator. The repair is expected to take approximately three hours.
However, because of service scheduling times, the service center may
need the vehicle for a longer time period.
For more information about this
recall, contact Cummins Onan at (800) 888-6626. Owner notification
began in September 2007.
Villa International has announced NHTSA recall 07E079000,
which affects driver's seats built between July 2005 and October
2007, and installed on some 2007 and 2008 Foretravel Phenix
motorhomes; 2006 through 2008 Monaco Signature motorhomes; and 2006
and 2007 Newmar London Aire and 2008 Newmar King Aire motorhomes.
The potential number of seats involved is 40.
On certain Villa Air Ride driver's
seats built with the V2000 or V2500 ISS Adnik/Villa frame and
installed as original equipment on certain recreation vehicles, the
side rail on the lower air suspension fails to conform to the full
requirement of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 207,
“Seating Systems.” In the event of a crash, the lower slide rails
for the air system can fail, leading to separation of the seat from
the seat pedestal and possibly leading to personal injury.
Dealers representing Foretravel,
Monaco, and Newmar will attach two reinforcement tethers between the
front of the seat pedestal and the top of the air suspension. The
repair is expected to take approximately 30 minutes. However,
because of service scheduling times, the service center may need the
vehicle for a longer time period.
For more information, contact
Foretravel at (936) 564-8367; Monaco at (800) 685-6545; and Newmar
at (574) 773-7791. Owner notification was expected to begin in
November 2007.
Winnebago Industries Inc.
has announced NHTSA recall 07V491000, which affects some 2006
through 2008 Itasca Ellipse and 2007 through 2008 Itasca Suncruiser
motorhomes built between May 4, 2005, and October 3, 2007. The
potential number of coaches involved is 645.
Certain motorhomes fail to comply
with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No.
108, “Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment.” The rear
red reflex reflector on Suncruiser models, and both the rear and
rear-side red reflex reflectors on Ellipse models are located above
the 60-inch height limit. Nonstandard side marker and reflector
lights could reduce visibility of vehicles and increase the
potential for a crash.
Dealers will add reflex reflectors in compliant locations. The
repair is expected to take less than one hour. However, because of
service scheduling times, the service center may need the vehicle
for a longer time period.
For more information about this
recall, contact Winnebago Industries at (641) 585-3535. At press
time, owner notification had not yet been scheduled.
