Chrysler has announced NHTSA recall 07V594000, which affects certain 2007 Dodge and Freightliner Sprinter vehicles equipped with a 3.0-liter diesel engine built from May 2006 through October 2007. The potential number of vehicles involved is 6,101.

On certain vehicles, used in the production of type B and type C motorhomes, the crankshaft position sensor in the diesel engine could fail due to separation of the wire from the lead frame in the sensor. This will result in an interruption in the electrical connection in the chip housing of the sensor, causing the vehicle to stall while under operation or not start. Sudden loss of power while driving could increase the risk of a crash.

Chrysler dealers will replace the crankshaft position sensor. The repair is expected to take less than one hour. However, because of service scheduling times, the service center may need the vehicle for a longer time period.

Daimler Trucks North America has announced NHTSA recall 08V269000, which affects certain 2008 Freightliner Custom Chassis XC motorhome chassis built from July 1, 2007, through October 9, 2007. The potential number of chassis involved is 1,860.

On certain XC motorhome chassis equipped with SAF-Holland ADL and ADLSD rear suspensions, the transverse beam was not welded to the suspension in the proper location, which could allow the transverse beam to separate from the suspension casting. Should the weld fail, vehicle stability while cornering could be affected, resulting in a loss of vehicle control, possibly resulting in a crash. In addition, the transverse beam could drop to the ground, causing sparks that could cause a fire hazard.

A Freightliner dealer or service center will visually inspect the transverse beam. If a weld defect is identified, SAF-Holland will provide a service replacement kit that contains a new transverse beam and all the installation hardware necessary for beam replacement. The repair is expected to take approximately 15 minutes (inspection only) to 90 minutes (if replacement is necessary). However, because of service scheduling times, the service center may need the vehicle for a longer time period.

Damon Corporation has announced NHTSA recall 08V255000, which affects certain 2007 Intruder, 2007 through 2009 Outlaw, and 2009 Challenger motorhomes built between August 2006 and May 2008. The potential number of vehicles involved is 265.

Certain motorhomes built on 2006 and 2007 Ford chassis with a 22,000-pound GVWR and 22.5-inch tires fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 120, “Tire Selection and Rims for Motor Vehicles Other Than Passenger Cars.” The metric and English values for the tire air pressures were inadvertently switched. The incorrect labels read “90KPA/620PSI.” The correct labels will read “620KPA/90PSI.” Underinflated or overinflated tires can cause or contribute to premature tire failure, possibly resulting in a sudden blowout or other failure, which could result in a loss of control of the vehicle.

Owners will be sent a revised certification label with the correct tire pressure values along with installation instructions.

Dometic Corporation has announced NHTSA recall 08E032000 (an extension of NHTSA recall 06E076000), which affects some two-door refrigerators built between June 1, 2003, and September 30, 2006, with model designations NDR1062, RM2652, RM2662, RM2852, RM2862, RM3662, RM3663, and RM3862; serial numbers begin with the following three digits: 320 through 352; 401 through 452; 501 through 552; 601 through 639. You will need both the model number and the serial number in order to determine whether you have an affected refrigerator. The potential number of refrigerators involved is 745,574.

On certain Dometic two-door refrigerators installed as original equipment or sold as aftermarket products, a fatigue crack may develop in the boiler tube in the area of the weld between the boiler tube and the heater pocket. This may release a sufficient amount of pressurized coolant solution into an area where an ignition source (gas flame) is present. The release of coolant under certain conditions could ignite and result in a fire. The majority of the recalled refrigerators do not pose a danger to the owner.

Dometic will install a secondary burner housing on the refrigerators. The repair should take approximately 30 minutes. However, because of service scheduling times, the service center may need the vehicle for a longer time period. It’s important to call your preferred service center to set up an appointment, and to ensure the dealer has the necessary rework kit.

Fleetwood Enterprises Inc. has announced NHTSA recall 08V234000, which affects certain 2008 Jamboree Sport and Tioga Ranger 25G type C motorhomes manufactured from May 22, 2007, through February 4, 2008. The potential number of vehicles involved is 186.

Certain Jamboree Sport and Tioga Ranger 25G model motorhomes fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 209, "Seat Belt Assemblies." The seat belts at the two center seating positions located at the wraparound booth dinette may be too long to achieve proper adjustments. Lack of proper seat belt protection increases the risk of personal injury in the event of an accident.

Fleetwood dealers will inspect and replace the two seat belts if necessary. The total length of time your motorhome will be out of service will depend on the dealer’s work schedule.

Spartan Chassis Inc. has announced NHTSA recall 08V275000, which affects certain 2007 and 2008 MM and 2008 K2, K3, and SU motorhome chassis manufactured from May 3, 2007, through July 18, 2007. The potential number of units involved is 213.

Certain motorhome chassis fasteners may fracture, resulting in poor handling of the vehicle, loss of steering, and/or a reduced level of suspension performance. Loss of steering will increase the risk of a crash.

Dealers will inspect and replace the defective fasteners as needed. The repair is expected to take approximately 30 minutes to 90 minutes. However, because of service scheduling times, the service center may need the vehicle for a longer time period.
