Fleetwood Enterprises Inc. has announced NHTSA recall 08V232000, which affects some 2004 through 2006 Jamboree GT and Tioga SL 29 S model motorhomes built from November 15, 2002, through June 10, 2005. The potential number of coaches involved is 135.

On affected motorhomes, the black iron propane pipe located under the motorhome may come in contact with chassis components during travel and, under certain circumstances, become pinched or crushed. This could cause a propane gas leak and potentially lead to an explosion or fire.

Dealers will inspect and relocate the black iron propane pipe, if necessary. The total length of time the motorhome will be out of service will depend on the dealer’s work schedule.

Ford Motor Company has announced NHTSA recall 08V165000, which affects certain 2008 E-350 vehicles with a 138-inch wheelbase built from September 1, 2007, through December 14, 2007. The potential number of vehicles involved is 3,331.

On certain vehicles, used in the production of type B and type C motorhomes, the driveshaft may have been manufactured with a slip yoke that has cracks, which could reduce fatigue performance below the design specifications. Cracks in the slip yoke could progress over time, and the slip yoke could crack without warning while the vehicle is being driven, allowing the driveshaft to separate from the vehicle and increasing the risk of a crash.

Dealers will inspect the driveshaft to determine its manufacturing date and replace the driveshaft, if necessary. The repair is expected to take four hours. However, because of service scheduling times, the service center may need the vehicle for a longer time period.

Jayco Inc. has announced two separate NHTSA recalls.

The first is recall 08V207000, which affects some 2005 through 2008 Seneca and 2007 and 2008 Greyhawk motorhomes built from July 20, 2004, through October 30, 2007. The potential number of coaches involved is 1,164.

On certain motorhomes, the conduit clamp on the copper LP-gas tube feeding the slideout is incorrectly placed, which may allow the copper tube to bend and possibly leak with the movement of the slideout. If the copper tube cracks, pressurized LP gas may escape into the compartment. This condition could result in a fire, injury, or death.

Dealers will relocate the conduit clamp and add a rubber grommet to allow adhesion. The repair is expected to take approximately one hour. However, because of service scheduling times, the service center may need the vehicle for a longer time period.

The second is recall 08V209000, which affects some 2005 through 2008 Seneca motorhomes built from May 25, 2005, through October 22, 2007. The potential number of coaches involved is 1,673.

On certain motorhomes, an electrical short can occur if the battery cables were not tucked into the battery compartment in a manner that does not allow the cables to be pinched between the battery slide tray and the compartment door. This condition could result in a fire, injury, or death.

Dealers will relocate the battery cables to the rear battery and reposition the P-clamp so as not to allow the battery cable to become pinched. The repair is expected to take approximately 30 minutes. However, because of service scheduling times, the service center may need the vehicle for a longer time period.

Norcold Inc. has announced NHTSA recall 08E030000, which affects certain refrigerators installed as original equipment in recreation vehicles. The recall includes models 1200LR, 1200LRIM, and 1201LRIM, manufactured from March 1, 1999, through February 28, 2001, with cooling unit serial numbers between 1008701 and 1273700 (this is an expansion of recall 02E045000). Norcold is working to identify the total number of refrigerators that were manufactured with this condition.

On affected units, a fatigue failure in the section of the cooling unit that contains the refrigerant could allow the liquid solution to slowly leak. If a leak occurs and the refrigerator continues to operate after the solution circulation has ceased, the heat source could generate very high temperatures. At such high temperatures, the steel material of the cooling unit could soften and rupture. If refrigerant gas is still in place when the rupture occurs, hydrogen gas may be expelled and could be ignited by the high temperature, possibly causing a fire.

Norcold is working with the RV manufacturers to notify owners and repair the cooling units.
