Bowling Green convention tours Print Email
While attending FMCA’s 82nd International Convention, consider taking one or more of the optional sightseeing tours around northern Ohio designed specifically for FMCA members by Toledo Tours. A variety of tours will be offered to appeal to many interests.

Reservations are required for all tours and may be made prior to the convention. Download the Tour Registration Form.

A Toledo Tour representative will be available at the tour desk located in the FMCA Information Center (Olscamp Hall lobby) on Sunday, July 19, 2009, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., as well as on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. to take reservations on a space-available basis. All tours are subject to change.

PUT-IN-BAY ON SOUTH BASS ISLAND IN LAKE ERIE

Take a ferry boat ride to Put-In-Bay and then board a tour train for a grand tour of the island. See the Perry Monument and hear the history of how Commodore Oliver Perry won the battle of 1812 to overcome the French. There are 37 steps to take before riding an elevator to the observation deck where you will have a magnificent view of all the islands and the mainland. Visit the many shops for memorabilia; visit Perry’s Cave; and have a glass of wine at the winery.

Includes: Roundtrip motor coach transportation, roundtrip ferry boat ride to the island, tour train, lunch, all group sightseeing, tax, and gratuity.

BOWLING GREEN … FROM TREASURES TO TURBINES

A visit to the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center will delight everyone. This Victorian home and museum in the town of Fremont, Ohio, is filled with wonderful memorabilia. The 25-acre area is known as Spiegel Grove. We’ll have lunch in the Dillon House, served by ladies in period costumes. The tour is “Not for Ladies Only.” Great for the history buffs.

TOLEDO—THE GLASS CAPITAL OF THE WORLD

Opened in 2006, the postmodern Glass Pavilion is the new home of the Toledo Museum of Art’s world-renowned glass collection, featuring more than 5,000 works of art from ancient to contemporary times. The Glass Pavilion itself is a work of art. All exterior and nearly all interior walls consist of large panels of curved glass, resulting in a transparent structure that blurs the boundaries between interior and exterior spaces. We’ll also visit the Our Lady, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Cathedral and drive through the largest collection of Victorian homes in the United States. A TRIP BACK IN TIME

Step back in time to the 1870s and board the Volunteer, an authentic 1800s mule-drawn canal boat for a trip along a restored stretch of the original Miami & Erie Canal. The boat passes through one of the original canal locks in front of the historic Isaac Ludwig Mill, a restored and working canal-era saw mill and grist mill. We’ll visit the mill and gift shop and then cross the Maumee River to Grand Rapids   a restored canal town. After lunch, you’ll find that shopping takes on a whole new meaning as you shop for antiques, gifts, and collectibles in buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
