Recall Corner: May 2009 Print E-mail
Forest River Inc. has announced NHTSA recall 08V664000, which affects some 2007 through 2009 model-year Georgetown motorhomes.

The affected motorhomes were built from August 16, 2006, through October 29, 2008. The potential number of coaches involved is 1,003.

On certain motorhomes, the aluminum baggage door trim has loosened and may detach from the vehicle. If the trim detaches, it could cause personal injury to persons outside the vehicle or lead to property damage.

Dealers will resecure the trim with additional fasteners. The repair is expected to take less than one day. However, because of service scheduling times, the service center may need the vehicle for a longer time period.

For more information about this recall, contact Forest River at (574) 206-7600. The recall was expected to begin in January 2009.

Fleetwood Enterprises Inc. has announced NHTSA recall 09V085000, which affects some 2009 model-year Tioga and Jamboree 31M model Type C motorhomes manufactured from June 3, 2008, through January 21, 2009. The potential number of motorhomes involved is 124.

Certain motorhomes fail to comply with the requirements of the Code of Federal Regulations, Part 567, “Certification.” The affected motorhomes were affixed with Manufacturer Federal Certification and Cargo Carrying Capacity tags that include incorrect fresh water tank capacity information. The original tags indicate that the fresh water tank has a 50-gallon capacity. The correct water tank capacity is 35 gallons.

Fleetwood will mail correct Manufacturer Federal Certification and Cargo Carrying Capacity tags to dealers and owners of record and ask that the original tags be defaced and replaced with the new serial-number-specific tags. Owners who are not comfortable installing these labels should contact their selling dealer to have this service performed.

For more information about this recall, contact Fleetwood at (800) 509-3418. Owner notification was expected to begin in April 2009.

Prevost Car Us (Inc.) has announced NHTSA recall 09V061000, which affects some 2008 VIP-45 MTH, X3-45, XLII-45 MTH, and XLII-45E MTH coach conversion shells manufactured from January 28, 2008, through March 21, 2008. The potential number of coaches involved is 23.

On certain conversion shells, the bolts that attach the independent front suspension lower A-arm may be defective. Failure of these bolts could lead to a loss of vehicle control and potentially a crash.

A Prevost service center/provider will replace the defective bolts with new certified bolts. The repair is expected to take one hour. However, because of service scheduling times, the service center may need the vehicle for a longer time period.

For more information about this recall, contact Prevost at (418) 831-5432. Owner notification was expected to begin in February 2009.

For current information about recalls, including information about the recall history of a particular make and model vehicle, call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Auto Safety Hotline at (888) 327-4236; or, search the NHTSA recall database. Even if your motorhome is not involved in a current recall, make sure the vehicle manufacturer and the chassis manufacturer have your current contact information on file for any possible future recalls.
