Recall Corner: November 2009 Print E-mail

Leisure Travel Vans has announced NHTSA recall 09V314000, which affects 2008 Free Spirit 210B and Free Spirit LSS Type B motorhomes manufactured between May 2007 and December 2008. The potential number of motorhomes involved is 40.

On certain motorhomes, the spare tire carrier and spare tire cover obstruct the visibility of the rear driver’s-side taillight, turn signal, and stop light. Following vehicles may not be able to see the obstructed tail lamp, turn signal, or stop lamp, which could potentially lead to a crash.

A Leisure Travel Vans dealer will replace the tire carrier, and a new taillight will be added to the existing tire cover. The repair is expected to take approximately 40 minutes. However, because of service scheduling times, the service center may need the vehicle for a longer time period.

For more information about this recall, contact Leisure Travel Vans at (877) 992-9906. Owner notification was expected to begin in August 2009.

Winnebago Industries Inc. has announced NHTSA recall 09V342000, which affects some 2007 and 2008 Itasca Cambria and Winnebago Aspect and 2007 through 2010 Itasca Impulse, Sunova, and Sunstar and Winnebago Access, Sightseer, and Vista motorhomes manufactured from January 25, 2007, through July 17, 2009. The potential number of motorhomes involved is 469.

On certain motorhomes, a stove partition that isolates the furnace return air may be missing. If the furnace is operated at the same time as the stove and the partition is missing, the stove flame may go out while the LP gas continues to flow. This gas potentially could ignite, resulting in personal injury and/or vehicle and property damage.

A Winnebago Industries dealer will install a stove partition. The repair is expected to take approximately 45 minutes. However, because of service scheduling times, the service center may need the vehicle for a longer time period.

For more information about this recall, contact Winnebago Industries at (800) 537-1885. Owner notification was expected to begin in October 2009.

For current information about recalls, including information about the recall history of a particular make and model vehicle, call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Auto Safety Hotline at (888) 327-4236; or, search the NHTSA recall database. Even if your motorhome is not involved in a current recall, make sure the vehicle manufacturer and the chassis manufacturer have your current contact information on file for any possible future recalls.
