FMCA membership number:
F290709 (we joined in
2001)
Our current motorhome:
A 1999 Safari Zanzibar
Three words that our motorhome calls
to mind:
Love, happiness, home
The best thing about our motorhome:
Its livability
Other motorhomes we’ve owned:
A 1993 Eldorado Classic type C, a 1983 Coachmen Presidential type A
and a 1984 Shasta type C.
We decided to buy a motorhome
because:
We wanted to travel and meet people.
The best thing about motorhoming:
Freedom
Our occupations:
Retired. Dick: body and fender, heavy equipment, painter. Bev:
courier.
Children: We have two children and four grandchildren.
We travel in the motorhome:
It used to be approximately five months per year, but now we’ve just
started to try full-timing.
Our all-time favorite motorhome trip:
In 1988 we took my (Bev’s) mother to Nashville, Tenn.
Favorite destinations:
All of the clogging conventions yearly since 1990.
One of our fondest motorhoming
memories:
My mom, at age 90, declaring she could use the commode at 60 miles
per hour.
Our “dream” motorhome trip:
To travel to see the entire United States.
Our perfect day of motorhome travel:
Any day we arrive at a destination with no problems.
Our worst motorhoming experience:
A trip from to Buffalo to Troy, N.Y., when we experienced problems
with our alternator belts and overheating all the way.
Our motorhoming pet peeve:
Unsociable people
Something motorhoming has taught us
about life:
People are more friendly when they are not stuck in a house.
The best addition we’ve made to our
motorhome:
Installing a ceiling fan in the bedroom.
If we could change one thing about
our motorhome:
Have an additional slideout.
Something about motorhoming that we
know now but did not know when we started:
That we can live in a smaller space.
When driving, the most important
thing to remember is:
Be alert.
Our favorite thing about FMCA:
The magazine — the info we gain from it — and the member benefits
and what they are trying to do for RVers.
Our advice for other motorhome
owners:
Maintain the motorhome for safety. Relax and enjoy it.
Our hobbies:
Dick: art, carving. Bev: clog dancing and crafts.
Our favorite way to exercise:
Walking
Our favorite movie:
RV
Our favorite authors:
Dick: Louis L’Amour. Bev: Sue Grafton.
Our favorite song:
“On the Road Again,” Willie Nelson
Our favorite restaurant:
Cracker Barrel
If we were awarded a shopping spree
at the store of our choice:
We’d choose Camping World for all the RV products.
Favorite campground:
Treasure Lakes RV Resort in Branson, Mo.
When motorhomers visit our state or
hometown they should be sure to see:
The Adirondack Mountains
Items that we always keep in our
motorhome’s refrigerator while traveling:
Wine and beer
Our advice to new motorhomers:
Get familiar with all moving parts of your motorhome. Make sure the
satellite antenna is down before moving.
Behind our motorhome, we tow:
A 1999 Honda Accord using a tow bar
Our favorite activity to do inside
the motorhome:
Relax
A pet that travels with us:
One cat
A technical tip we’d like to share
with other motorhome owners:
Make sure maintenance — oil changes, filters, etc. — is up-to-date.
Other comments:
Whenever we’re traveling and see an FMCA membership “goose egg” and
can read it, we jot down the number for future reference. If we’re
at a campground, we check the membership number and get the member
names using FMCA.com’s member directory. Then, if we happen to see
the members, we call them by name, which starts a conversation.
