Sightings of deer, coyote and other species increase this time of year, and migratory birds return to the sanctuary. It may be due to cooling temperatures, or maybe the critters just don’t want to miss all the dazzling autumn scenery.

Ales on Rails

Hues of amber and gold are not only found among autumn leaves but also flowing from a tap as the Verde Canyon Railroad celebrates Ales on Rails every Saturday and Sunday during October. In a tribute to Oktoberfest, the best Southwestern breweries serve up their handcrafted beers at the depot prior to departure and onboard the train during the excursion.

Accompanying the frosty microbrews at the depot are traditional Oktoberfest favorites such as brats, pretzels and strudels, as well as lively music.
