These chapter members find fun near New York City.

Founded on April 21, 1973, the Long Islanders chapter was chartered by FMCA on July 1, 1973. Our scope is Long Island, New York, and the New York City metropolitan area.
Our membership consists of 41 families, and we welcome other FMCA members to join us. Most of us live on Long Island, but members representing Indiana, Florida, and Quebec are in our group as well.
Rallies are held once each month from April to November. In early December we have a Christmas/Hanukkah dinner at a local restaurant. Our newsletter is published each month about three to four weeks before the next rally, so members know about upcoming plans.
Rallies usually last from Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon. If it's a holiday weekend, the rally is extended an additional day. Friday and Saturday nights after dinner and dessert we settle down for games of cards, horse racing, or occasionally to watch a DVD movie made by a chapter member. During the afternoons, members can be seen playing horseshoes or tossing bean bags. Some of the women engage in knitting and crafting.
Our rallies are run by volunteer hosts (usually two families), and they plan the meals. Sometimes we eat out or have a potluck meal. Or the hosts may make breakfast or dinner, or just offer coffee in the mornings. It's their choice.
Long Island has wineries, beaches, museums, and historic Gold Coast mansions. Members often pool their cars to sight-see. Most of the time we meet at Battle Row Campground, about 1 mile from Exit 48 off the Long Island Expressway (Interstate 495). The Bethpage Long Island Railroad Station (to New York City) is a short distance from Battle Row Campground
We also utilize Long Island county parks, especially Indian Island County Park in Riverhead, New York, where we stay for a week with water and electrical hookups. Hiking, swimming, and kayaking are favorites there. During the season one rally is held at the Moose Lodge in Riverhead (Long Island), where the camping fee includes full hookups and DirecTV at the site. Occasionally, we head to a campground in upstate New York and go apple-picking. Other popular dry-camping destinations are the Mohegan Sun Concord Casino and Foxwoods Resort Casino (both in Connecticut).
When attending the Northeast Area Rally in Essex Junction, Vermont, we usually meet near the rally at a designated spot and then enter together as a group.
