How often does your pet accompany you on motorhome trips?
She always travels with us.

What type of motorhome do you own?
We have a 2009 Safari Simba.

What do you like best about motorhoming with your pet?
We especially love having her remind us when it’s time for dinner when we are on the road, even when it really isn’t but she figures it is! Then it’s time for treats when it isn’t time for dinner!

Does your pet have any favorite travel destinations?
Her favorite destination is anywhere the engine is switched off .

Was it easy for your pet to adapt to motorhome travel?
Poor Jemma has hated the coach ever since she first set her paw in it. She hates all moving vehicles where there is an engine and can’t figure out why we don’t just walk wherever we are going.

Jemma makes herself comfortable in FMCA members' Don and Linda Ferguson's motor coach.Does your pet have a favorite spot in the motorhome?
She has recently decided she wants her “bankie” at Linda’s feet when traveling so she can look up at Linda with soulful eyes that say, “Don’t you feel sorry for me?” From this vantage spot, she can also see as soon as Don turns off the ignition and she can be free.

What are your pet’s favorite toys?
Jemma loves Beanie Babies and nibbles at them.

Do you have to do anything special to accommodate your pet in your motorhome?
When we are parked, we have to open the privacy shade at one of the windows so Jemma can see what is going on.  If we don’t, she will stand in front of you with her ears perked up as if you have committed the greatest sin ever.

What is your favorite activity to do with your pet while traveling?
Jemma loves to “people watch,” but don’t talk to her, because she is the boss and she will let you know she hasn’t given you permission to talk!

Advice for other motorhomers who travel with pets or are considering traveling with pets:
Through conversations with other travelers who have dogs, we have discovered it is not unusual for dogs not to be all that comfortable with traveling. In fact, several people have said they, like us, have had to medicate their pet with various products prescribed by their vet. We find Jemma does not get as upset when we give her a quarter of the vet’s recommended dosage of a tranquillizer. It just seems to take the edge off for her and leaves no lasting ill effects.
