Cabbage Beef Soup

Did you ever go to Shoney's Big Boy and enjoy their soup and salad bar and try the Cabbage Beef Soup? Well, if you did, here is the recipe for this warm and tasty soup.

  • Cabbage Beef Soup
  • Ingredients:
  • ½ head cabbage chopped fine (or use coleslaw ready cabbage in bag)
  • 1 large onion chopped fine
  • 1 green pepper chopped fine
  • 6 celery stalks chopped fine
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 can red kidney beans
  • 1-16 oz. can V-8 Juice
  • 1-8 oz. can beef broth
  • 1-8 oz. can chili ready tomatoes
  • 3 tablespoons chili powder


  1. Directions:
  2. Chop all vegetables and cook in water until vegetables are soft. Drain remaining water from vegetables. Set aside.
  3. Brown ground beef in skillet until browned. Add browned ground beef to cooked vegetables. Add all remaining ingredients. Cook on low heat for approximately one hour stirring occasionally. Serve hot.
