Alabama, Mississippi RV Friendly signs
Jan. 31, 2006
The Alabama and Mississippi state
legislatures, respectively, are considering bills that would
allow RV Friendly logos on highway information signs.
Alabama HB 143 and Mississippi SB
2431 would require each state’s transportation department to
incorporate the use of RV Friendly markers on signs for
establishments that cater to the needs of a RVers.
The transportation departments would
design the RV Friendly markers and establish minimum requirements
that businesses must meet to qualify as RV Friendly. Requirements
would include large parking spaces, entrances, and exits that can
easily accommodate an RV, and appropriate overhang clearances.
Status: Alabama HB 143 was
referred to the Public Safety Committee on Jan. 10. Target date for
the legislation to take effect is July 1, 2006.
Mississippi SB 2431 was referred to
the Highways and Transportation Committee on Jan. 10. It would take
effect on the first day of the third month following its approval by the Governor.
Texas, Oregon, Louisiana, Tennessee,
Washington and Florida already have adopted the RV friendly road
sign initiative.
