Nov. 11, 2006
update
Public talks about
whether to implement on-street parking restrictions for RVs
continued at the Nov. 9. Traffic and Transpiration Committee
meeting.
The committee also held
public meetings on this issue in May and July.
Residents have
complained that large RVs are unsightly in residential neighborhoods
and, when parked near intersections, create safety hazards for
drivers.
Existing code permits RVs to park in
residential zones for 72 hours. The changes under discussion include
prohibiting parking between 2 and 6 a.m. unless the owner has a
24-hour permit.
RV owners say they need
adequate time to to maintain their vehicles and prepare them for
trips. They're also concerned about the
cost and availability of storage facilities.
The
Traffic and
Transpiration
Committee is
an advisory body to city council, which will ultimately decide the
issue.

The Burbank Traffic and Transportation Committee
met May 11 to discuss a proposal that if enacted as proposed
would restrict the time RVs are allowed to park on city streets.
Existing code allows RVs to park on
residential-zoned streets for 72 hours.
The new regulations would ban parking between
2 and 6 a.m. unless the RV owner obtains a 24-hour permit. The
permit would prevent extended parking and curtail owners from moving
their RVs a short distance every 72 hours.
The Traffic and Transportation Committee, a
legally constituted advisory committee to Burbank City Council, will
welcome public comments at its July 13 meeting.
City Council will have final say on the
matter.
