Overland Park, Kan., RV storage
Sept. 19, 2007
Overland Park City
Council has enacted legislation that restricts RV parking on
residential property. The action came Sept. 10, and follows
several years of debate and many draft ordinances.
Council unanimously
enacted the ordinance, which imposes the following restrictions:
Side yard parking:
Vehicles must be
parked as far from the side property line as possible and behind the
front of the house.
• Vehicles that meet
height requirements may be parked on the side of the house if they
are not parked within a “required side yard.”
• The vehicle must be
substantially screened up to 8 feet in height.
•
Vehicles may be parked in the required side yard only if the vehicle
is completely screened from view.
Rear yard parking:
•
Vehicles must be
parked as far from the back and side property lines as possible.
•
If the vehicle is
parked within 25 feet from the back property line, the vehicle has
to be at least 3 feet from the property line, and substantially
screened with an 8-foot-tall fence or landscaping.
•
If parked more than 25
feet from the back property line and not within the required side
yard, the vehicle does not need to be screened.
These rules apply to boat storage as
well.
Overland Park is
located in eastern Kansas, minutes from downtown Kansas City,
Mo.
