Motorhome Chapter Spotlight | FMCA
This associate chapter in northern Ohio has its roots in a Tiffin owners group.

FMCA has chapters and associate chapters. Twenty families are required to charter a chapter; 10 for an associate chapter. Associate chapters do not have a representative on the FMCA Governing Board, but they do offer members the same social benefits as all chapters, helping them to better enjoy the motorhome lifestyle.
Erie Shores is a new associate chapter that was formed in September 2010. John McKenna, vice president of a Tiffin owners group called the Erie Shores Allegros, is now also vice president of FMCA's Erie Shores chapter. John said this new FMCA chapter began when FMCA members in that Tiffin owners group wanted to form a chapter that included all kinds of coaches, not just Tiffins. "We have a lot of friends who don't have a Tiffin product," he explained.
The chapter's official geographical scope is northern Ohio and western Pennsylvania. And, of course, you don't have to own a Tiffin to join. There are 15 member families in the chapter currently.
John described the new chapter's October 2010 rally, which took place in Grafton, Ohio, a suburb south of Cleveland. There, they camped at a member's homestead, enjoying "200 acres, a nice pond, a karaoke machine, and a campfire," among other amenities. John mentioned the pond fondly, because he and other chapter members love to fish; they also like to pursue outdoor activities such as skeet shooting. John added that overall, members "also have a genuine interest in music and entertainment and having fun. People who have joined recently say a good camaraderie exists among the group. It just works."
John said that in 2011, the chapter's activities will probably start in May. "We may be going to the RV museum in Indiana [the RV/MH Hall of Fame and Museum in Elkhart], and from there to the G.L.A.S.S. Rally in Michigan. That generally will be our first rally of the year," he said.
The chapter plans to hold rallies each month up through October. Last December the group got together for dinner, just to stay in touch.
You will see quite a few Tiffin motorhomes if you join this new group, but, as mentioned, you don't have to own one to belong. Membership costs $25 per coach per year, and the group has a newsletter.
