The Tucson Drifters is a fun-loving group of 60 member families who live in Tucson, Arizona; surrounding areas such as Green Valley; Tucson's northwestern communities; and as far away as Sierra Vista, Arizona. Our motto, “It’s not where you go, but who you go with!” really defines us.
The chapter was chartered in May 1999, and from the beginning we have met at monthly dinners and fun-filled rallies. Our activities take place from October through May and help us to develop and maintain strong friendships. Our monthly dinners include a social hour, club and rally news, brief presentations of interest to RVers, short business meetings, and, on occasion, entertainment.
Our monthly rallies are all very different. Nothing about them is dull, thanks to our activities committee and our hardworking and imaginative rally hosts. We have been to San Diego to enjoy all it has to offer, including Navy ship tours. We’ve seen the Texas Tenors perform at the Mesa Regal RV Resort. Last October we celebrated Halloween at a rally in Tucson that included a GPS-aided scavenger hunt in the dark of night (with a lot of flashlights!). Other rally themes have ranged from "Senior Prom" to "A Salute to the Armed Forces."
Our spring 2012 rally schedule has us in Ajo, Arizona, just 130 miles from Tucson, for the 34th annual Old Time Fiddler's Contest in February. In March we're off to see Marie Osmond at the Mesa Regal RV Resort. In April we'll head over to Desert Hot Springs, California, to hear The Diamonds perform in the Palm Springs Follies, and we'll use GPS coordinates to find the homes of area Hollywood stars, both alive and not-so-alive. In May we're going to explore Old Route 66 from Williams, Arizona, to Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Our chapter has an outstanding newsletter and a great Web site, www.tucsondrifters.org, where you can read the current newsletter, as well as past issues. We also publish our rally schedule on the site, and a membership link where visitors can download our membership application. Chapter dues are $20 per coach per year, and there is a one-time $10-per-person initiation fee to cover the cost of badges.
Our members are our best source of new members, but you also may have heard of us through new member mailings and chapter fairs. We invite you to check us out and get to know us. You can attend two of our events — perhaps a dinner and a rally — before membership dues are required.
