Travelin Texans members served as volunteers during the 2009 Six-State Rally in Shawnee, Oklahoma.

Central Texas is the home base for this close-knit group.

Travlin Texans secretary Marie Taylor, F310834, wife of chapter president Wilfred "Tony" Taylor, says all Travlin Texans members want their chapter to grow. Right now the number of RVs that arrive for rallies is sometimes smaller than RV park requirements. While they await some expansion — either through having individuals or other chapters join them — they are still planning for fun.

What do members do when they get together? When they are not exploring the sights near rallies, the Travlin Texans love to play games. The variety of competitions they enjoy is impressive: sandbag baseball, cards, dominoes, and board games. If you visit a rally, you will be invited to join right in.

Typically, rallies include eating out as well as joining for catered meals, group meals, and potlucks.  Sometimes the group combines educational sight-seeing with good eats.  The chapter also has taken the Blue Bell ice cream factory tour in Brenham, and they have explored Newman's Castle and Bakery in nearby Bellville. At previous rallies, chapter members also have visited museums or antiques stores and outlet malls.

Each year the Travlin Texans hold five rallies — in March, April, May, October, and November. Locations for this year's fall rallies are Texarkana (October) and Lampasas (November). Marie explained, "We try to hold rallies within a range of central Texas, but we branch out north, south, east, and west so no one has to drive a long distance each time."

The Travlin Texans chapter was established in 1987.

At its current size, approximately 25 member families, the chapter can grow quite a bit and still stay personable. So, if you live in Texas, the Travlin Texans welcome you to join them. As Marie said, "We always enjoy making new friends and will try to make you feel at home. We're not cliquish."

Chapter dues are $10 per year, plus a one-time name tag charge of $12.50 for each new member. Check out a rally this spring.
