Gary Bunzer gives an overview of how an RV absorption refrigerator works, and explains what motorhome owners can do to protect it and maintain its efficiency. Find out what can damage a cooling unit, and learn preventive maintenance tasks.
Testing Motorhome Safety Devices: Smoke, Propane, CO, Fire
All motorhomes are equipped with safety-related components such as fire extinguishers, carbon monoxide alarms, propane leak detectors and smoke alarms. Gary Bunzer shows how to perform simple tests on these devices to keep your and your motorhome safe. Electronic safety devices have a limited service life and can deteriorate over time, Gary notes. Since the carbon monoxide alarm, the propane detector and the combination propane/CO detector are hardwired into the motorhome's 12-volt battery system, none will operate with a depleted battery bank. So, be sure to keep that battery system in good working condition. http://www.fmca.com
Motorhome Gas Water Heater -- Preventive Maintenance
Gary Bunzer presents easy preventive procedures that can eliminate common RV water heater issues and keep keep it performing. Because a motorhome's gas-fired water heater combines elements of the fresh water plumbing system and the propane system, a variety of problems can surface just in time to ruin a vacation trip. Many safeguards protect the plumbing and propane portions of the water heater, but a little proactive preventive maintenance can all but eliminate some of the common problems. Take a closer look at a typical RV water heater ... http://www.fmca.com
Motorhome Review: Coach House Platinum II
Gary Bunzer reviews the Coach House Inc. Platinum II motorhome, 241XL DT floor plan. The keynote attribute of Coach House motorhomes is the one-piece unibody shell that includes every exterior surface, except the undercarriage, molded as one complete assembly. No joints or seams to shift or squeak or rattle. It's ''the quietest motorhome I've ever driven.'' Coach House sells directly to the consumer. Base suggested retail price: $182,295. http://www.fmca.com
Testing a Motorhome's Propane Gas System
Can you guarantee there are no propane leaks in the gas system on your motorhome? Gary Bunzer discusses three LP-gas test procedures that can keep your propane gas flowing smoothly and safely. He suggests having your system checked by a certified technician at least once a year, especially if you smell propane or notice operational problems with appliances. Can you ever be too careful with propane? Be aware of these maintenance procedures. http://www.fmca.com
Installing an Adjustable Thermostat on Motorhome Water Heater
Gary Bunzer shows how you can get complete control over the temperature of the water delivered to the hot faucets in your motorhome. Atwood Mobile Products' service kit includes an adjustable thermostat. The kit is available as a retrofit to Atwood propane water heaters. So, swap out the original, non-adjustable thermal limit switch for an adjustable thermostat. http://www.fmca.com
Motorhome Propane Pressure Regulator: What Is It, How Does It Work?
Propane pressure regulators accept the fluctuating high pressure inside the propane container, and reduce that pressure down to the acceptable rate that propane appliances are designed to burn at their respective burners. By feeding your appliances the correct amount of gas, delivered at the correct pressure, you'll have plenty of hot water, comfort heat, and a way to cook that meal come dinner time. Gary Bunzer advises to carry a spare regulator, especially if you like to dry camp in areas away from civilization. Be sure your spare regulator has the correct orientation of the second-stage vent opening for you particular orientation. While all regulators perform the same function, not all are created equal. http://www.fmca.com
Testing the RV Fresh Water System for Leaks
Gary Bunzer shows a method RVers can use to make sure there are no leaks in the motorhome fresh water distribution system. A pressure testing device, which is easy to assemble with common fittings and a specialty fitting, can facilitate checking for leaks anywhere in the fresh water distribution system. Moisture intrusion is a major cause of damage to RVs. Avoid it with a little preventive maintenance.
