During a rally last September, Capitol chapter president Konrad Steck (right) presented a cane he made to longtime chapter member Harold Nelson.

Members of this longstanding chapter have a reputation for enjoying good food and friendship when they get together.

If you are looking for a chapter that welcomes newcomers with plenty of good food, check out a Capitol chapter rally soon. Capitol chapter members usually hold rallies in the areas where most of them live — Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, and West Virginia. The chapter’s scope also includes North Carolina, South Carolina, Kentucky, and Tennessee.

Current chapter president Konrad Steck, and his wife, Jean, have a reputation for loving to cook. Chapter members still talk about a memorable outing when the Stecks fried huge turkeys for dinner as the group rallied in Virginia last November.

Most of the time, rallies are arranged around an event or festival, if possible. Chapter members have attended the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire in Manheim, Pennsylvania, for example. The Eastern Area Rally, held each year in October, also is an occasion for members to meet. Konrad said that last year, chapter members volunteered in the parking area at that rally.

Chartered in 1969, the Capitol chapter was named after the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., and the dome of the building functions as the chapter's logo. Approximately 68 member families belong to the group, and approximately 15 to 25 coaches attend the rallies. Members come from a wide range of occupations and enjoy the RV lifestyle — and each other's friendship.

Chapter dues are only $15 per year and rally fees are kept low. One of the member benefits is a monthly newsletter, issued 10 times a year, called "Coach Trails."
