Ohio Nomads

The focus is on fun in this chapter from the Buckeye State.

We Ohio Nomads come from all over the Buckeye State, and we meet throughout Ohio as well as in Michigan, Indiana, and other nearby states. We've even traveled together to Branson, Missouri. Our chapter is 34 years young, and we enjoy rallies from April through October.

Our rallies are set up for fun. We often arrange them around events, such as the Tulip Festival in Michigan, or the Covered Bridge Festival in Indiana. If there is no event, we make one up. Last September our rally had a theme of "Six Months 'til St. Patrick's Day." The blarney flowed freely, as did hilarious door prizes and Irish stew. We always seem to do something that gets everyone laughing. At a rally in Port Clinton, Ohio, we enjoyed a regular Lake Erie perch fish fry on Saturday, and on Friday we were served a spaghetti-and-meatballs dinner. Nothing unusual, except that on Friday we ate the spaghetti wearing plastic gloves and sporting sanitary toilet seat covers as bibs!

Our 2012 rally season is off to a good start. In April we visited Gatlinburg, Tennessee, in the beautiful Great Smoky Mountains. In May we dined on some of the best pork barbecue that has ever touched our lips in Marengo, Ohio. This month is our Scavenger Hunt Bingo Rally in Medina, Ohio. We'll be given bingo cards marked with the names of area businesses, and each establishment we go to will give us a trinket as proof of our visit.

In July we'll head to Wapakoneta, Ohio, for a rally in the hometown of astronaut Neil Armstrong. In September we'll be in the Ohio Amish town of Sugarcreek for the annual Swiss Festival. Say cheese! And have you ever had sauerkraut ice cream? Try some with us at the Waynesville Sauerkraut Festival Rally in October. Our November Christmas party donations and the proceeds from our pop-can tabs and from an auction to be held in September all benefit the Shriners Hospitals for Children.

You'll notice I left out August. That month the Ohio Nomads will continue a tradition of volunteering at FMCA events. At the 2009 FMCA convention in Bowling Green, Ohio, we worked as Information Center volunteers and plan to do so again at FMCA’s Family Reunion & Motorhome Showcase in Indianapolis, Indiana, this August. See you there!

We always welcome new members. Attend a rally as a guest, and you'll be greeted with many friendly smiles! A list of future rally dates and photos of previous rallies are on our Web site, www.ohionomads.com.
